Ok, time for some thinking. Recently, after a replacement Siligence modem/router, the same issues of the modem/router doing random shutdowns due to "suspected power cycle" have started. The worst one came shortly after a reset of the modem due to wifi speeds going to below WiFi4 level, there's no specific time, no specific reason, it just drops at random at any time of the day or night.
Putting a hand on the modem and you feel it's rather warm despite it being on the wall in the open, not enclosed, good air circulation.
This has me suspecting it may be "overheating" from time to time, irrespective of how intensive the use is, and I don't feel like pulling the power every night to let things rest.
So the question is simple. If I put the Siligence into "bridge mode", disabling wireless and everything except the WAN and one LAN port, will that help with temperatures and possibly the random shutdowns, while putting everything else through a new WiFi 6 router. I'm looking at solutions because this replacement started the same problems as the original one within weeks of installation, and they are increasing in frequency. Orange won't give me a newer model of modem, not even with the upgrade to Zen Fibre, and another SIligence will only end up doing the same again.
So, could this help solve what seems to be an inherent problem with the modem as it heats up if most of its hardware is disabled in bridge mode?

Well, to finalise this thread, the engineer has been and it was proven that the Siligence was faulty. He tried to do a speedtest on wifi and the modem decided to reboot itself with no warning there and then, the perfect time for the Siligence to throw a tantrum! No questions from that point onwards and the LiveBox was fitted. Now, after resetting everything to the new network, WiFi 5 speeds are clearing 450Mbps, effectively doubled.
A very happy camper, and one that is happily sticking to Orange no matter what because the service is second to none.
Well, the "inconveniences" shouldn't be an issue, the way things sit here I have to wifi everything so no cables, saving config to PC isn't an issue as when I change anything from "default" I tend to be able to keep it in memory, and I shouldn't need to use the bridge mode.
The Xiaomi? At a cost of 44€ thanks to BOL vounchers it will be kept as my usual "just in case", and if I end up having to move elsewhere and the wifi is not so good thanks to the placement of the modem then I have a mesh I can extend things with. Waste not, want not, it won't take up any space and can always come in useful for myself or even friends in case of emergency.
Thanks for the answers.
Fair enough
DHCP is no problem on wifi
Best split the SSID's (2.4 and 5 GHz) 5 GHz is fast when within range
Success
(1) I've had a Siligence for years without the problem you are experiencing. Ask for a replacement
(2) If you upgrade to Giga Fibre, you will get a LiveBox cable modem.
Known inconveniences with the LiveBox cable modem

What you could do with the Siligence is (I've had a Siligence without the problem you are experiencing)
This is my second Siligence in "ahem" years, the first one I put down to age but since this started the same things so soon after installation I wonder about the causes. The heat I feel is something that concerns me, I'm an electrcian and know only too well what excessive heat can do to things, and that's just what I feel on the case as I'm not pulling the modem apart, so I'm thinking of ways to reduce that to see if it helps. I won't get the Live Box, I've just upgraded to Zen and it's fast enough when wired but I can't run cables across the middle of the floor and I don't trust powerlink. That limits options to everything running wifi. It's never "excessive", but I wonder about the cause since this one started misbehaving so quickly even with "Guset Wifi" disabled (that's not needed for me). I know everything gives off heat, but this does seem excessive so it makes me wonder...
I can have a Xiaomi AX3000 mesh router that can act as a standalone tomorrow, so I can tinker with different options, see what happens, and monitor external temperatures. If things start to behave, then the problem is obvious, but it is so annoying when things just go "donk" at random with no warning when you're in the middle of something so finding the cause is something that gets my head working in the hope it can help others because I know I'm not alone with this problem.
I'll keep things updated
I see the Xiaomi AX3000 is dual band. If dual band is sufficient, I'g rather go for the Asus xd4. But that is my opinion
You can use it with or without bridge mode
Good luck
